A Family by Choice Christmas by Nathan Caro Fréchette

Our countdown to the winter solstice continues!

Around this time of the year comes a number of important religious celebrations around the world. To celebrate, we’ve brought together quite a few amazing independent authors and artists for an advent calendar of blog posts.

Each of them will write a short piece or create something related to the celebration closest to their heart.

Yesterday’s story was La Bafana, by Derek Newman-Stille.

Today’s entry is called A Family by Choice Christmas, by Nathan Caro Fréchette.

Make sure to come back tomorrow to see the next installment in the series, by Jennifer Carole Lewis!

Supernatural Suspense

Book 4 in the Family by Choice series

It’s been five years. Five years since GenEx. Five years since the world was completely changed. And now Alex feels responsible for integrating extrahumans with the “normals.” He must also take care of the gravely-ill Mister Lupino. When his son, Nicholas, suddenly reappears in his life under tragic circumstances, Alex doesn’t know if he can take it. Maybe that’s why he starts seeing people that aren’t there, and hearing sobs in the night. Maybe it’s all of the stress. Or, maybe, it’s something else.

Making a Living

making a livingBy Caroline Frechette

Young Adult / Science-fiction

Extreme paranoia, withdrawal, and sheer, unadulterated power run through Nathan’s veins. It was all he’d ever known.

Then he meets Annie, an undead ghoul. She sees, in him, the potential to finally succeed in her quest to bring herself back to life. In exchange for his help, she offers to show him that there is so much more to life beyond dumpster diving, living in abandoned buildings, and eating out of discarded cans.

When Nathan accepts the offer, he undergoes an incredibly dangerous journey to bring back the dead, confront his own past, and make his heart vulnerable to Annie, who may have a deeper connection to him than he suspected.

by Caroline Frechette

I have to, Jimmy. You don’t understand. It’s about the fate of the world. It’s pretty important.

It’s been over a year since the events of Brothers In Arms. Alex and his super-powered friends knew that GenEx wasn’t really gone, but they’ve been living peacefully since escaping them, and haven’t given it much thought. Now, not only is GenEx back, but Alex and his friends receive a message from the future telling them that much more may be at stake than their own lives. Are super-powers really enough for someone to save the world?

Kindred Spirits is book 3 in the Family by Choice series.

Family by Choice series

Renaissance Press’s very first series of novels is Family By Choice, by Caroline Fréchette. They feature the adventures of Alex Winters, a young mafioso with the ability to create and manipulate fire. The books can be read independently, but it is best to read them in order.

The series is paranormal/dark urban fantasy, with elements of horror and suspense.
